From CNBC:

Some retailers have already lowered their October forecast. Target Corp. reduced same-store sales guidance mid-month, for the second month in a row, citing "greater-than-normal daily volatility and continued disappointing sales results."

Meanwhile, specialty retailers are facing declining mall traffic as consumers curb discretionary spending due to high gas and food prices and other economic concerns.

"Mall traffic continues to be down, making it even more important to convert the customers who do walk through the doors," wrote Buckingham Research Group analyst John Zolidis in a client note on Monday.
