Here's a question for a summer Sunday: what is your favorite summertime beverage, alcoholic or not?
Last summer I started working on concocting my perfect summer libation. I know I want lime, mint, vodka, and ice, but I don't want it overly sweet (so not a mojito), and I don't want a bitter aftertaste (so not a vodka and tonic). I've been experimenting so far with seltzer water, ginger ale, peppermint schnapps, and creme de menthe among other things, but still haven't found just the right combination.
Of course, all of this experimentation has required repeated and extensive testing!
So, what's your favorite liquid relaxation to beat the heat?

Sangria. A bit labor intensive but when you mix in seltzer or ginger ale you can drink it all afternoon.
Thanks to you and Bonddad for your excellent analysis and for sharing.
My wife's lemonade, homemade from real lemons.
I like gin and tonic with cucumber and mint. I think that citrus and mint clash a bit unless you sweeten it up quite a bit. So if you want it less sweet try the cucumber instead. You could try seltzer instead of tonic.
A John Daily. Take an Arnold Palmer, Half and half Iced Tea and Lemonade, and add Bourbon (or Vodka).
Hi,
First, good blog. Keeps to the point without becoming overly subjective. Data matters indeed.
Second, put this recipe on your post as it is a real winner
LAZY RED CHEECKS
4,5cl wodka
1cl violet syrup (boil violet candy in water and cool down to obtain lots of it)
1cl sugar water
4cl lime juice
6 fresh raspberries
Recipe is from Manuel Wouters. Check out the movie to see how it's made:

Oh greetz macrotool ( I'm the one who posted the lazy red CHEECKS recipe
Tequila, lime/lime juice, splash of soda water.
Simple, smooth, light, and delicious.
Baileys with milk
Pina Colada made with vanilla ice cream.
Or more simply:
2 oz tequila blanco
juice of one lime
tsp of agave nectar
orange juice to fill the cup
A good craft beer (and for the sake of the local economy, one made in Michigan). I've got a cold Bell's Oberon open right now. Yesterday, I indulged with some Short's Pandemonium Pale Ale.
A dry rosé from the south of France, much harder to find than the too-sweet rosés that are easy to find. Great hot-weather drinking.
Thanks, everybody. You've given me some great suggestions to try (and I will ...)!
