Below is a video of a panel I participated in last summer. At the time I participated I realized that it was being taped. It just slipped my mind after the panel was over and I forgot about it until I found the recording yesterday. Go figure

Thanks for posting this video. Believe or not, I actually watched the entire thing. Beyond how prescient all of you were (as you and your readers have found out, you did point out how bad things could get, but they got even worse than you predicted very quickly), two items caught my attention--the pokes at the followers of Ayn Rand and the crookedness of Indymac. Both are pet issues of mine.
First, if you were implying that Objectivist are members of a kooky cult, I agree with you. I've never had a $cientologist threaten me as a result of online interactions with them, but both of the times I've dealt with Objectivists online, they've begun to threaten me in very short order.
FWIW, the second most popular story on Newsweek this afternoon was about how the followers of Ayn Rand are dealing with this crisis. They are doing a good imitation of Cleopatra, Queen of Denial.
Who Is To Blame?
Some point to Alan Greenspan. But his hands-off approach to the economy originated with Ayn Rand.
Second, Indymac Bank screwed over my fiance, forcing her into foreclosure. Fortunately, she was able to sell her old house before the Sheriff's auction. She wrote a diary about the experience on Daily Kos.
It was my home, Indymac.
She and I have taken cold comfort in Indymac's failure and its being investigated for fraud.
Bonddad, you should be aware that your description of substitution effects in the CPI is dead wrong. It is not steak v. hamburger. It is steak at Store X v. steak at Store Y. I have Greenlees and McClelland's paper from Monthly Labor Review which discusses methodology. Their methodology is not at all like Shadowstats has claimed.

Anon your analysis is wrong. Twenty years ago it would have been Store X vs Store Y. Then it was steak to hamburgers. Now it's hamburger to top ramin. And I don't care how many papers you've read on the subject. This is the reality.
Demeur
There's nothing more persuasive than some anonymous guy on the Internet asserting something with no link to back him up, Demeur.
Crimeny.

I have not laid eyes on you in so long, I probably wouldn't recognize you, but I'd recognize that voice anywhere. You still sound exactly like yourself. Anyway, nice job, man.
cheers,
Jill (Chancey)
