Inflation Really Isn't An Issue



Above is a chart for the year over year percentage change in CPI for the US (blue line) Japan (red line) Euro area (green line) and UK (yellow/gold line).   The FRED database only has non-seasonally adjusted numbers.  If you look at the chart, you'll notice the inflation isn't an issue right now.

I have a question why the wild gyrations during the recession, specifically why did it spike up at the beginning? I would have thought the direction would have been downward only.

My guess would be energy prices, especially oil - maybe food as well. Just a guess.
